Fitness and Wellness

Career Field Overview

Participation in wellness programs can provide intergenerational opportunities for socialization, promote resilience, and prevent onset and slow progression of chronic disease. A professional in fitness and wellness with a gerontology background will understand the physiological changes that happen to the body with age and how those changes impact physical activity, nutrition, and more. They understand the diverse needs and abilities of people as we age and can create personalized plans to not only teach people how to perform movements and activities safely, but also help all of us achieve our personal fitness and wellness goals.
