Architecture and Engineering

Career Field Overview

When designing and engineering spaces (homes, schools, stores, medical facilities, public spaces, etc.), architects and engineers who understand universal design will know how to create spaces that are accessible across all ages and abilities. Features such as wider doorways, even and leveled sidewalks, longer crosswalk lights, well-lit public spaces, and more, ensure people of a diverse range of ages and abilities can engage meaningfully and safely in those spaces. Implementing such accommodations from the get-go avoids the need for costly modifications later.
