Career Field Overview

Pets and service animals provide vital socialization and support for people of all ages. Animal care service providers, from veterinarians to dog walkers to groomers, who have gerontology training will know how important animals are in the lives of older adults. They will be prepared to provide services in such a way that allows people of all ages and abilities to maintain these important relationships, for example by offering drive-up services or house calls to deliver animal care. They will also understand the importance of grief and loss support in the event of an animal’s death.
