Career Field Overview

Older adults make up over 9% of the world’s population, yet most clothing is designed for younger adults and children. Designers have an opportunity to take older adults’ fashion needs and style interests into consideration. With a gerontological background, designers understand accessibility along with the physical changes that can happen as we age in terms of heat regulation and dexterity. They also understand that our sense of fashion doesn’t necessarily change with age and multiple options are required to suit the needs of a diverse aging population.
